How to use and adjust the pressure controller
Source:Shanghai Automation Instrumentation Co., Ltd    Date:2025-04-02

In the field of industrial automation and fluid control, pressure controller is one of the corecomponents to ensure the safe and stable operation of equipment. It is widely used in water treatment, petrochemical, HVAC systems and other industries by monitoring and regulating the pressure inside pipes or vessels in real time to avoid the risk of overpressure or underpressure. This article will detail how to use the pressure controller and how to  adjust it to help you operate efficiently and optimize system performance.

How to use the pressure controller

1. Precautions for installation

Location selection: Installed in a location with low vibration and stable temperature, away  from electromagnetic interference sources.

Connection: Make sure the connection is sealed with the pipe (use raw tape or sealant) to avoid leakage.

Electrical wiring: Connect the power supply and load according to the instructions, and pay attention to the voltage matching (such as 24V DC or 220V AC).

2. Basic operation steps

Power on initialization: Turn on the power and observe whether the controller display or indicator is normal.

Set the pressure range: enter the target pressure value (e.g. 0.5MPa) by pressing the button or knob, and set the dead zone (differential pressure) (e.g., ±0.05MPa) to avoid frequent start and stop.

Linkage device test: Manually trigger a pressure change to check if the controller can respond accurately (e.g. start/shut down the pump).

How to adjust the pressure controller

1. Calibrate the pressure sensor

Zero point calibration: In the state of no pressure, press the "ZERO" button to reset to zero.

Full scale calibration: Apply a standard pressure (e.g., 1MPa) and adjust the gain value to the correct display.

2. Optimize control parameters

Proportional Band (P): Reducing the proportional band increases responsiveness, but too  small can cause oscillation.

Integration Time (I): Extending the integration time eliminates static difference and is suitable for constant pressure systems.

Differential Time (D) (optional): Suppresses pressure fluctuations and is suitable for high-precision scenarios.

Maintenance and upkeep recommendations

Regular inspection: Clean the sensor interface monthly to prevent dirt from clogging.

Waterproof and dustproof: IP65 and above protection level are required for outdoor installation.

Record data: Save historical pressure curves for easy analysis of system trends.

Proper use and adjustment of the pressure controller not only increases the efficiency of the equipment, but also extends its service life.

Note:The article is applicable to general purpose pressure controllers, please refer to the  product manual for specific operations.
